Donald Ward “Chip” Askins

Donald Ward “Chip” Askins, 82, of Woodward Meadows passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2020.

He was born on March 14, 1937 in Mackeyville.

Chip was a graduate of Mill Hall High School.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in the 61st Military Police Company in Verdun, France from 1955 to 1958.

He was employed by Piper Aircraft for 27 years and then at Sunoco, retiring in 1992.

Chip loved hunting, fishing, camping and playing cards with family and friends.

Little League held a special place in his heart- whether coaching a team or simply watching a game.

He was an avid Penn State football fan.

Chip will be remembered for his storytelling, practical jokes and for being the “life of the party.”

Surviving are his children and stepchildren: Donald “Chet” Askins of Lock Haven, John Askins of New Jersey, Rickie (Terry) Beck of Lock Haven, Mary (Curt) Ferree of Lock Haven, Brenda Coleman of Jersey Shore and Wanda Kramer of Avis; his sister, Faye Condo of Mill Hall; 13 grandchildren and step grandchildren: Misty, Dawn Marie, Heather, Dustin, Isabella, Josh, Lori, Kelly, Curtis, Jess, Ron, Jr., Wilbur, Jr. and Dustin; many great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his father, Carson R. Askins, and mother Anna “Annie” M. Klinefelter Askins McGlinsey, and step-father, Harold “Punk” McGlinsey, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy “Sin” Heimer; a granddaughter, Mindy Confer; six brothers: Jesse, Dale, Gordon, Walter, George and Clair Askins; and two sisters, Pearl Calhoun and Helen Harrow.

His family extends a special thank you to the wonderful care givers who provided excellent care and made it possible for Chip to stay in his home.

Chip will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at 3 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745 with Rev. Alan Eckenroad officiating. Military honors will follow.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 P.M. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions in Chip’s name may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation through the funeral home.
