George S. Labant, Jr.

George S. Labant, Jr.,83, 221 Chestnut St., Cross Fork, Pa., died April 16, 2021 at UPMC, Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, Pa., with his family at his side.

Born July 30, 1937 in Renovo, he was the son of the late George S. and Isola Dillion Labant.

George was a lifetime resident of Cross Fork and received the Remembrance of the First Holy Communion on May 26, 1946 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Renovo. He attended both St. Joseph Catholic School and the Cross Fork School. On Jan. 16, 1960 at the Assembly of God Church he married Helen Probst, who survives at home.

George served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962 and received many awards for his service and was discharged outstanding recommendations to enter the workforce. George was a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies and traveled throughout the United States. In 1975, he started his own business “Let George Do It” an excavating and septic pumping business.

An avid outdoorsman George enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He made several adventurous trips to Wyoming for big game hunting and fishing. Working was a big part of his life which he enjoyed into his later years working on many interesting projects throughout the state. His most recent adventure was a cross country trip to their cabin in Alaska. George was a member of the Galeton Masonic Lodge 602, Galeton, Pa., American Legion of Renovo, Pa., Kettle Creek Hose Company and Ambulance Association, the American Trappers Association, Cross Fork Sportsman’s Association and IUOE Local66.

In his retirement, he enjoyed watching western movies, feeding and watching the birds and visiting with friends.

Helen and George are richly blessed with one daughter, Diane (Bruce) Montgomery of Oregon; one son, Danny (Julie) Labant of Galeton and Alaska; one granddaughter: Rachel Labant; one step-granddaughter, Macy Montgomery; one brother, Thomas (Mary Jane) Labant, Clasbash, N.C.

He was preceded in death by one brother, C. Joseph Labant.

Keeping with George’s wish there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cross Fork Sportsmen’s Club c/o Chuck Cross, 12 Summerson Lane, Renovo, PA 17764 or the charity of one’s choice.
