Donald R. Bierly

On Sept. 15, 2021, Donald R. Bierly completed his circle of life at the farmhouse in Bellefonte where he was born in 1934. He was the son of the late Sherman and Helen (Fulton) Bierly.

Don graduated from Bellefonte High School and the Williamsport Technical Institute. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his Army service he returned to the dairy farm in Bellefonte, where he worked until his retirement.

On April 4, 1964, he married Linda Lou Whippo.

He is survived by his wife, along with two daughters, Lori Padua (Joseph), and Kelly Bierly (Allan Fen); two brothers, Jon Bierly (Sally), and Robert Bierly (Bonnie); and two sisters, Nancy Haupt and Margaret “Peggy” Czacki (Stan); as well as two step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was a pilot who built his own plane and flew it from a landing strip on his farm. A gentleman of many talents, he will be deeply missed.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the many family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers who provided so much love and support in his final months, which brightened his days.

Services will take place on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 145 W. Linn St., Bellefonte. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
