Harold ‘Skip’ Lee Letterman

Harold “Skip” Lee Letterman, 80, passed away on Nov. 21 2025, in Williamsburg, Va. Born on May 26, 1945, in Lock Haven, Pa., Harold spent his early years with his adopted mother Geraldine Caldwell and grandmother Amy Caldwell.

At 19, he enlisted in the United States Army. Shortly thereafter, he married Barbara Bartholomew and volunteered for service in Vietnam from 1965-66. Though he suffered no physical wounds during the war, he was exposed to Agent Orange and suffered from PTSD for the remainder of his life. He served in many locations including the Philippines, Japan, California, North Carolina, and a total of 10 years in Germany. Skip rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and retired after 23 years of active service.

Following his military career, he worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense (DOD) for ten years. He then became a defense contractor for both the DOD and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) until his permanent retirement in May 2022. Although Skip was very proud of his years of service, he was never boastful. He was a staunch patriot and defender of the Constitution throughout his life.

During his time with DOD, he met and later married his second wife, Virginia “Ginger” Pierson. Skip and Ginger retired in 2022 and relocated from Reston, Va., to Williamsburg, Va.

Skip is survived by his first wife, Barbara Bartholomew; his daughter Michele (Letterman) McBride, and grandson Joshua McBride, all of Lock Haven, Pa.; his son Christopher Letterman and daughter-in-law Kristin Letterman of Harpers Ferry, W. Va., and their children, grandson Trevor and granddaughter Meghan. He is also survived by his second wife, Virginia “Ginger” Pierson; daughter Eryn Letterman of Chatt anooga, Tenn., and her son Aiden T. Jesser; and his second son, Benton Letterman of Pittsburgh, Pa. He is survived by his siblings Wanda Welch of Fla., Amy Mallory Stevenson, Daniel Mallory, Dawn Mallory, Darryl Mallory, and Tammy Mallory Shultz, all of Clinton County. His brother Charles Mallory, passed away after a long illness on May 23, 2022.

Skip loved his family, race cars, Key West, great beer, visiting Italy, Ireland, or Germany, action movies, documentaries, his pets and Christmas.

Services for Skip will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a date and time to be determined.
