Applause, Applause!

Each Saturday, The Express community newspaper highlights people, groups and activities our readers deem worthy of applause.

The Friends of the Bald Eagle Valley Trail want to send a big THANK YOU to the many volunteers who came out on Sunday, Oct. 20, for the work detail on Clinton County’s new Rail to Trail (BEVT). They came with rakes, shovels and picked up litter. A special “Thank You” to Scott Bean, Dave Calhoun, Gary Litz and Kerry Stover for providing equipment that made our job of spreading fresh surface stone so much easier. The trail was rolled with a Pine Creek Twp. roller last Friday and looks great! Thanks also for the volunteers from Clinton County Cleanscapes.

Over the weekend I needed someone to drive me to New York City where my son was in the hospital. I called everyone I knew. Then a friend said to call Mr. Satch Sanders. Boy, did he come to my rescue in flying colors. The driver was kind, great and not easily rattled. Several times on the way up I would have pulled off the road and cried. So this is a HURRAH and a job well done. Mr. Sanders, if I need a driver again, I want Miss Katie again.

I want to THANK our Chapter 691 officers for their great work in making our Fall Awards Banquet a huge success. Again, thank you Michael Frank, Ronald Glossner, Tessa Irvin, Beth Lindsey, Misty Frank and Emma Butler for your many hours of helping to make things happen. With your help our banquet members and guests had an enjoyable evening. Also, a special thank you to Nittany Valley Fire Company for a delicious meal.

I would like to THANK all who were there for John and I on Oct. 1 when he had his terrible accident while cutting down a tree. With deep gratitude, I thank friends and neighbors Jerry Lullo III, Tammy Coakley and Ruth Miller; first responders from Howard QRS; Collin Alterio and Mark Ott; the ambulance driver Randy Payton from Beech Creek-Blanchard Fire Co. and the two people who worked with him; the paramedics from Mt. Nittany Hospital who made the call to have John life-flighted to UPMC Altoona, and the wonderful EMT helicopter crew who flew him safely to Altoona. In addition, I would like to thank Pastor Ed and Pastor Mike who visited and prayed with us this past month and to my faithful drivers and good friends, Ruth Miller, Lois Bowes and Marg Gilbert. The prayers, concerns, caring and help from my neighbors and the neighboring churches are much appreciated. There have been many blessings this past month. We have all of you to thank for getting us this far. John should be coming home early in November. Thank you very much,

— Dottie Specht, Howard

I want to send a great big THANK YOU to the lady who helped me at Walmart’s candy aisle for trick or treat candy. When I put my card in the machine at the check out she told the clerk to void it and she paid for my entire grocery order of $99. Thank you very much!
