Our area a mecca for trail hikes

They came from Ulster, Enola, Mifflinburg, Huntingdon, South Williamsport, Cogan Station, Muncy, Lebanon and Bedford.

We’re talking about competitors in the Sept. 21 Boulder Beast Trail Challenge up and around Bald Eagle Mountain.

And those are just a few of the towns in Pennsylvania that were represented.

In all, the several hundred runners-hikers came from a dozen states and the District of Columbia to compete in the local race.

The epic, 24-mile course challenges participants in ways only they know … steep uphills and downhills, narrow forest paths, stream crossings and the signature boulder field with its breathtaking views of the Susquehanna Valley.

We love what Sayard Tanis of Jersey Shore said, “I was motivated by a lot of supportive people. I love Pennsylvania running and really enjoy the boulder fields. There was great support out there — between the volunteers and the other competitors, it really drives you and makes you dig deep.”

Yes, it’s that heartening, compelling and gratifying feeling a great trail challenge can produce … and it’s alive and well in Clinton County!

Congratulations to the PA Trail Dogs, the event organizer. Thanks to the volunteers.

Because of you and the participants, Clinton County has become a national mecca for mountain trail-hike competitions.
