A moving and unique experience

CHRISTINA CODER

Loganton

On Saturday Sept. 9, I met Ronald Bauman, also known to many as “The Can Man” and “The Walking Man.”

I recognized him from a video shown in my church, Blanchard Church of Christ.

Pastor Russel Moldovan presented it to our congregation to make us aware of the power one person could have on this earth.

I felt a need to meet him, so I followed him into the local KFC. After I introduced myself, he immediately started talking to me. He told me about his work collecting cans for Ronald McDonald House.

For those of you who don’t know Ronald, he walks around downtown Lock Haven collecting aluminum cans for good causes.

He also gives money to his church, Flemington Church of Christ.

He was most proud of his current goal of getting 1,011 (60 pound) bags of crushed cans in three years. He is very close to reaching his goal.

The thing that impressed me the most about Ronald was his strong, unwavering faith in God. He told me he was saved on July 20, 2002, and knows where he is going when he dies. He is not ashamed of Jesus, and wants others to know about Jesus as well.

This was not a chance meeting. I am better because of it.

We need more Ronald Baumans in our community, and in our world.
