Deaf government

GLENDA HEYD

Montoursville

I watch the news daily, and various sources. I read widely and note with growing and uncomprehending alarm the fact that our elected and appointed representative are in their own world.

No, I did not just realize this, but I fear it has reached a new high.

They all have more resources than we have as average citizens. They have no clue what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck or Social Security check to Social Security check.

One U.S. senator thinks we could all save enough to worry about the estate tax if we stopped buying whiskey and going to the movies!

None of us can afford our healthcare insurance or our medicine.

Our children can’t afford college.

Many college graduates live under the burden of huge debt, unable to help the economy by buying homes.

And now they want to pass this horrendous tax bill.

Companies are not going to invest that money in higher wages or building new factories.

Why would they employ people here at our wages (even if they are below a living wage here) when they can pay only a pittance to workers in foreign countries?

Companies are sitting on large amounts of cash now. Anyone who follows the stock market knows this.

Our economy has “rebounded,” but companies refuse to pay higher wages.

They would rather buy back their stock to reward stockholders than reward the hard work of their employees, being too blind to see that a middle class with no buying power is of no use to them!

There is not enough space here to list all the organizations, agencies, economists, etc. that have taken a stand against the tax bill.

What are Pennsylvania U.s. Sen. Pat Toomey and U.S. Rep. Thomas Marino thinking?

Call them and they listen with a closed mind. Write to them and you get a form response listing all the “wonderful” things they have accomplished.

But there is no dialog.

Please, people, do call and write. We can’t give up. You can’t fight a tidal wave.
