Hope springs eternal

Do letters to the editor ever really change anyone’s views? I don’t know but “hope springs eternal.”

Thank you to our community newspapers for having this forum.

I enjoy hearing from all sides if reasonably written and I appreciate the humor in many of these epistles. I believe I have noticed a more balanced editorial page on some occasions, good for you. Maybe think of adding Doonesbury on a daily basis. Just a thought. Thank you, also for the coverage of local sports.

Who am I? No, no. We are not considering any legislation of any kind this decade! Oh, that was too easy, wasn’t it? Yes you’re right, Mitch McConnell.

For those of you who want to go back to better times: There were fewer mass shootings when we had a ban on assault weapons.

I believe because of a lack of courage on both sides of the aisle it was simply allowed to lapse.

My research shows that background checks were, years ago, backed by the NRA.

Please stop the juvenile name calling of people who disagree with your views.

Try explaining your ideas.

Bullying is bullying in whatever form it takes.

Please Mr. President, please stop belittling, insulting and fear mongering different races, ethnic groups, religions and immigrants.

I don’t believe most people in this country approve of it except perhaps a small minority who you make more brazen with each damaging phrase.

Congress, why can’t you consider ideas before demeaning them. We can help many people with health care, better immigration policies and tax reform to name a few. To quote a former President, “we don’t choose to do things because they are easy but because they are hard!”

As I stated in the beginning I like to get my paper. Making the press the enemy does us no good at all. Just because someone differs from you in their views doesn’t make them the enemy.

Also wanting to help people doesn’t make someone a communist. I watch Fox News sometimes. As I also stated in the beginning, I like to read and listen to humorous material!

Oh, come on, just kidding.

Lighten up.

One last thought for the day: I don’t think it is an aisle separating us any more but an alley, a dark alley.

For those who are favoring party power over the people, allow me to quote Mark: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?”

Thanks for “listening.”
