An easy way
David L. Faust
It’s no big secret that most taxes in Pennsylvania, such as earned income on workers and many others, unfairly burden working class citizens the most. A graduated income tax could be used to solve that problem. However, a Constitutional amendment would be necessary to legalize that fairer tax.
Is there another solution? Yes. In his book “Progress and Poverty,” Henry George argued that the basis of wealth was land and that a single tax on land, abolishing all other taxes, would bring in enough revenue to solve the problem of poverty and equalize the wealth. Therefore, if local and county government and school districts would increase their property taxes, earned income on workers, occupation, per capita and other unfair taxes, could be eliminated in an easy way.
