Getting our juice

A natural gas-fired electrical generating plant is to be built in Renovo and a methane-fired generating plant at the Wayne Township Landfill.

No news recently.

A Biden administration won’t permit them. In a debate of Democrat candidates, he said that oil and gas would have no place in his administration. To put a finer point on the dagger aimed at Pennsylvania, he wants to end the use of coal and natural gas by electrical utilities.

The thousands of Pennsylvania gas-field workers and those supplying them and anyone heating with this fuel will take in the neck. And anything emitting methane, including cows is to be proscribed. Coal miners, too.

He’s pushed by the Sanders-Ocasio Cortez crowd who want to make us over as a zero-carbon country. Where will we recharge our electric Tesla’s when our gasoline and diesel vehicles are ruled illegal? Preposterous? Not under President Biden/Cortez. And they don’t need to do it administratively.

Their energy policies will make oil, gas, and electricity so expensive travel and home heating will suffer. Everything transported will cost much more. All this in addition to his announced massive national tax increase.

We’ll get our juice from solar and wind? Currently solar generates less than 2 percent of our electricity, and wind about 7.3 percent. If we shutter all coal and natural gas-fired generating plants, we’ll descend into third-world status with electricity supplied a few hours each day.

We’ll be in Dogpatch status. Too bad cartoonist Al Capp is gone. Years ago he came to Penn State to speak. Students shouted him down. He smiled and left the podium, noting the organization that invited him had already paid him for the speech.

Natural gas and coal plants generate electricity when it’s calm and overcast day or night. So do the 100 nuclear plants.

Wind and solar do not.

Statistics on the U.S. Department of Energy site show us the triviality of solar and wind electricity compared to the national demand.

The Democratic Party nominated Mr. Biden as its candidate. They thought Mr. Sanders was unelectable because of his socialist policies.

Now that he and his former competitor have joined forces, Mr. Biden offers near-identical nostrums. Make the country miserable. Lenin, Stalin, and Hitler would approve. Venezuelan and Cuban dictators, too.
