Five Things To Know: Lock Haven University Volleyball

LOCK HAVEN – The LHU Volleyball team opens the season Saturday August, 25 with home games against West Liberty University at 11 a.m. and Davis and Elkins College at 3 p.m. at Thomas Fieldhouse. Here are five things you need to know before the Bald Eagles begin the 2018 season.

1. Last season standout libero Shaye Whiteman was first in all divisions (I, II, II) in digs per set with 7.26. She finished the season with 777 digs, which is seventh all-time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) single season record books.

2. The team only lost two seniors from last year’s team, and will be leaning on their experience from last year to make a big splash in the PSAC this season.

3. The Bald Eagles were picked to finish third in the PSAC Central Division in the preseason volleyball coaches’ poll. Shippensburg was deemed the favorite to win the Central Division with the rest of the favorites being: Gannon (Northwest), Seton Hill (Southwest) and West Chester (Southeast).

4. The Bald Eagles return their four leading hitters from last season. Veronica Morrison had 246, Gabrielle Stick had 240, Breanna McDonald finished with 232 and Chloe Williams chipped in with 217. Their balanced attack also returns a vital piece in starting setter Kristen Nealon.

5. The team saw a five game win improvement from 2016 after finishing 11-19. The Bald Eagles will look to improve once again this year and look to their strong core to power an impressive season.
