LHU: Women’s XC heads to Edinboro looking to contend for PSAC title

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday, November 3 and the Lock Haven University women’s cross country team is headed northwest to Edinboro University looking to contend for the team title.

Saturday’s 6,000-meter championship race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at Edinboro.

The Bald Eagles will enter the race ranked among the top-three in the Atlantic Region, and LHU – the region’s No. 3 team – enters the postseason after a tremendous showing at Pre-Nationals on October 20. LHU finished 11th, just six points behind 2017 PSAC champion Edinboro.

During the regular season, Lock Haven was led by the front-running trio of Laurel Moyer, Cadie Kiser and Amanda Shultz. Both Moyer and Kiser were All-Conference performers last year and Shultz was 13th in 2016, finishing as the top freshman in the race. Caroline Stickley, who has had a fine 2018 season thus far, was also an All-Conference runner in 2016.

Amanda Hassinger bookends Lock Haven’s top-five, while Bryn Trout and Morgan Perry round out the top-seven.

At each of the last two PSAC Championship meets, Lock Haven has crowned a pair of All-Conference runners. Never before, have three Bald Eagles run to All-Conference honors as the same championship meet.

Looking back at last season’s PSAC Championships, LHU finished eighth despite the strong runs from Kiser (16th) and Moyer (18th). Including Lock Haven’s eighth-place showing last year at the 2017 championship meet, the Bald Eagles have placed among the top-10 at the PSAC Championships nine of the last 10 times. During the last 10 championships, LHU has placed fourth three times and the highest finish in the last 10 championship meets came in 2011 when Lock Haven finished third overall.

The third-place finish in 2011 marked the Bald Eagles highest finish since they took second in 2000. That second-place showing in 2000 is the highest PSAC Championship finish in school history.
