Bucktail softball ends season 17-2

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Bucktail softball finished the 2019 regular season 17-2, giving them the top seed in the Mid-Penn D4 A League and a first round bye in the playoffs. The Bucks will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between Canton and Galeton Thursday at 5:00PM in Turbotville.

Bucktail finished 13-1 in league play with their two losses coming in their final five games of the season. Still, perhaps the best news of the season came in their final game in a 10-0 win over AA Williamson.

The Bucks were finally able to return to their opening day lineup as the team got healthy just in time for their last game before the playoffs.

It was a complete team effort as the Bucks combined for 12 total hits. A five- run second inning rally was sparked by the bottom of the order while the top of the order picked up eight hits. Emma and Myka Poorman combined for a no-hitter from the mound as the team behind them committed just one error.

Bucktail had been ranked second in the conference behind Montgomery over the past couple of weeks but a tough 4-1 out-of-conference loss to Lewisburg handed the Red Raiders their third loss of the season dropping them to 16-3.

Before the loss to Lewisburg, Montgomery had won 15 straight games. The Red Raiders and Bucktail went 1-1 against each other in two lopsided affairs. Bucktail beat Montgomery 19-2 on their home field on April 2 before the Red Raiders returned the favor 12-1 May 6 in Farwell.
