Slattery wins Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year, named to First Team

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) of the Lock Haven University softball team has been named the 2019 D2CCA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year for her historic 2019 season as she continues to dominate in the circle for LHU. She was also named to the First Team on the All-Region selections.

On Monday, Slattery was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division Pitcher of the Year for the third time in her career while also being named to the All-Conference team for the fourth consecutive season.

It’s been an all-around historic season for Lock Haven as the team captured the 2019 PSAC championship. The championship was the sixth in LHU’s rich history and the first for the team since 2009. The Bald Eagles went 4-1 this year at the tournament as they knocked off conference powers Shippensburg, Gannon, Kutztown and Gannon again in the championship.

Slattery is having another dominant season as she leads the PSAC in almost every major pitching category. She was named the 2019 Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player as she willed LHU to the conference title. At the tournament, Slattery went 3-1 in the circle with a 1.97 ERA. She struck out 55 batters and also earned a save in the championship game. That save, the 12th of her career, made her the all-time leader in saves in PSAC history. She also hit .454 with three home runs and four RBI’s at the plate.

For the season, Slattery leads the conference in almost every major pitching category. She leads the conference in wins (20), ERA (1.45), complete games (26), shutouts (7), saves (6), strikeouts (292), and opponents’ batting average (.174). She currently ranks sixth all-time in career strikeouts with 832 and leads all of NCAA Division II in strikeouts.

Lock Haven will travel to West Liberty University for the start of the 2019 NCAA Atlantic I Regional Tournament on Thursday, May 9. The Bald Eagles, the No. 8 seed in the region, will open with the top-seeded Hilltoppers in the double elimination tournament. The game is set for a 12:00 noon start.
