BELLEFONTE- Four members of the Bellefonte Red Raider lacrosse team were recently selected to the Central Susquehanna All Star Team.
Molly McKee, Elle Macafee and Elizabeth Hargrove were selected as District All Stars. Kayle Frantz received an honorable mention. The four athletes guided Bellefonte to a 6-6 record with a playoff matchup in its inaugural season.
Molly McKee garnered first-team recognition. She led Bellefonte with a Raider-high 45 goals and 12 assists in her freshman year.
“She has fantastic skills,” Bellefonte coach Doug McKee said of Molly. “She makes the right passes, takes great shots and rebounds off the goalie. She’s very aggressive on the attack side and she’s very fast. She’s an awesome lacrosse player.”
Elle Macafee received first-team honors. The midfielder scored 14 goals, tallied nine assists and led Bellefonte in ground-balls controlled and draws controlled.
“She’s able to control the game for us,” McKee said of Macafee. “Whenever she’s successful with the draw she immediately gets the ball in the attack zone. She’s a great passer and a great facilitator.
“And on defense she gets back and plays the whole field. She’s just a complete vital part of our team’s success and a tireless worker.”
Elizabeth Hargrove earned second-team honors. Hargrove switched to defense mid-season and led the team in forced turnovers. She was often assigned to shadow the opposing team’s best attacker.
“She’s a great athlete on defense, she never gets tired and she plays at 100-miles per hour the whole time,” McKee said of Hargrove. “In the games that we won this year she played a big part of that success.”
Kayle Frantz’ 85 saves as a goalkeeper earned her an honorable mention. The freshman helped anchor the youthful defense, and her aggression in the goal transitioned to a fast-paced tempo for the offense.
“Our defense struggled against some of the better teams, and we needed a little more aggression out of our goalie, which is what we got,” McKee said. “She’s been more active coming out of the crease, deflecting passes and trying to lead our fast breaks. She did a great job at the end of the year, and we’re really looking forward to more improvement from Kayle out of the goalie position.”
Bellefonte heads into the 2020 season returning all of its talent. The team was senior-less in 2019– and the squad got major contributions from its underclassmen as All Stars Molly McKee, Elle Macafee and Kayle Frantz will be just sophomores next season. Elizabeth Hargrove will be a senior.
