Keystone Juniors open sectionals with 15-13 win over Selinsgrove

(SHAREIK FLOWERS/THE EXPRESS) Keystone’s Dallas Alexander stares down the pitcher Thursday in a Juniors little league baseball game versus Selinsgrove. Keystone won the game, 15-13.

LOCK HAVEN -Selinsgrove finally got out of the top of the fourth inning after Keystone took a 9-4 lead when dark clouds rolled in and forced a suspension Wednesday afternoon.

The game was finished Thursday as Keystone eventually held on for a 15-13 win over Selinsgrove in the Section 3 junior baseball tournament.

Keystone advances to the championship game.

Selinsgrove was able to tie the game in the third when Mikey Felty, Bryce Shaffer, and Mark Pastore displayed a patient approach at the plate to draw walks. In the middle of the walks to put runners on base, Josh Domaracki hit a single and Tucker Teats reached on an error to help score four runs.

Selinsgrove made Keystone go the distance as it scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Keystone was able to adds runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh to stay in front, but committed five errors in the final inning.

“Basic message was we committed five errors and you very rarely win when that happens,” Keystone manager Patrick Johnson said. “I told them to be grateful you got the win, but understand when you walk kids and make errors you can’t win like that. You have to play seven innings.”

Keystone relied on Gabe Johnson, Braylen Corter, Levi Schlesinger, Mason Miller, Kelvin Probst, Dallas Alexander, and Luke Bowman as the small parade of pitchers allowed it to keep all options open moving forward.

“One of the things we knew is the Selionsgrove will have their two best pitchers if they make it back, so we knew we needed our two pitchers to compete,” Johnson said. “Every pitcher is available except one.”

Keystone scored in the opening inning when Braylen Corter reached on an error and Dallas Alexander moved him to third with a single. Kelvin Probst hit a double and Gavin Burnell hit a single to score runs for Keystone. Alexander then hit a double in the fourth to score three and help Keystone take a 9-4 lead.

“We had seven strong offensive innings,” Johnson said. “I was very happy about that. We played decent defense until that last inning.”
