SPRING MILLS – It was a night that will be long remembered by Penns Valley sharpshooter Hannah Montminy.

The senior has been the backbone and heart and soul of the last two Penns Valley girls teams that finished in the sweet 16 in PIAA State action.

Monday night, Montminy stood within 12 points of placing herself over the 1,000-point plateau.

In her typical team-first mentality, the veteran Ram used the attention to distribute to her teammates.

Her teammates took full advantage and rallied early on to take a 51-29 victory over Bald Eagle Area.

Montminy eventually reached that milestone with 3:36 left in the third after stepping behind the 3-point line and draining a deep ball.

“We knew coming in that Bald Eagle might throw some junk defenses at us, like a box in one, triangle and diamond, which they did. We’ve been planning this for a while so we know if it happened we’d know what to do,” said Penns Valley Coach Terrence Green. “We told everyone, ‘let it come natural.’ The girls did great. Hannah knew not to force anything and that’s what she did. She had some great assists in the first half. Beautiful set ups for her teammates.”

Montminy was the game’s leading scorer with a 14-point effort. All but one of her baskets was behind the 3-point line.

“It was so fitting she hit it on the three ball,” Green said. “It was a great way to get her 1,000.”

For Bald Eagle Area, the offense was led by Lacee Barnhart, who finished with 13 in the loss.

Barnhart was the catalyst for the Eagles, never giving up and trying to push her team to get back into the game.

“She’s been playing very good for us in the first four games, she’s scored well and has taken up that leadership role, wanting the ball and embracing it,” said Bald Eagle coach Darin Hazel. “We’ve been really proud of what she has done for us and we need her to score so that’s helped us out a little bit. She has been terrific so far this year.”

The first half strictly belonged to the Rams as the team came out full of energy and wanting to help their teammate accomplish the rare milestone.

Ironically, Montminy would give the fans something early to cheer about as she hit a 3-pointer for the game’s first score with 6:30 left in the period.

From there, she became the distributor as she helped her teammates outscore the Eagles, 13-0, in the first period.

Montminy hit her second triple of the game with 25 seconds left in the period, leading all scorers with six.

In the second quarter, the Rams continue to sizzle from the floor as they scored 19 while the Eagles only scored five.

Two points from Barnhart and Abigail Hoover led the way for Bald Eagle.

Penns Valley took a 32-5 lead into the intermission.

The Rams picked up where they left off in the first half, posting a 4-2 run to start things off.

Then with 3:36 left in the third, history was made as Montminy got the ball from just beyond the line, and with a flick of her wrist, the ball sailed through, placing her in rare company as a member of the 1,000-point scoring club.

“It was just a sigh of relief to take the pressure off and get it,” said Montminy of her 1,000-point shot.”But honestly, without my teammates, past and present, it was just a good way to just make it so that it went in so I could stop worrying about it.”

After the bucket, Bald Eagle tried to scrap and claw its way back into the game.

Barnhart had a 9-point third as the Eagles outscored the Rams 12-7 in the quarter, making it a 39-17 game.

Both teams settled for 12 in the final stanza, as the Rams secured the victory.

Penns Valley also led in rebounds by a 26- 17 margin in its 22-point victory.
