The Bucktail Bucks will celebrate senior night tonight. Four of the five players that have carried the team all season will dress for their final home as the Gene Bruno-led team has leaned heavily on their five starters all year.
The improvement of the team has been on an incline all year and will apparently continue right up until the final game of the year.
Powerhouse Sullivan County visited Farwell on Saturday and the despite the 53-42 Griffins win, coach Bruno was quite happy with his team’s performance.
“We lost by 43 points just last month to them at their place, including being down by 18 at half. Today we pulled within seven later in the game and lost by just nine while missing one of our starters,” Bruno pointed out following the loss.
Had it not been for a sluggish start, including a six-point second quarter the Bucks could have been in serious upset pace over the Griffins. Sullivan’s Justin Metzger’s six points in the second matched the Bucks’ team tally as his team outpaced the Bucks 15-6 over the eight minute span.
Bucktail sophomore Dylan Cross set the comeback attempt as he put in nine of his 15 points in the second half. Cross and Sullivan’s Sam Carpenter each notched game highs of 15 points.
“We’re just not giving up, we’re continuing to improve and we’re certainly fun to watch, again, there’s no doubt these kids are leaving everything that they have out on the floor every game,” Bruno said of his squad.
