SPRING MILLS – The Bellefonte Lady Raider soccer team started fast, but couldn’t get the win in their season opener at Penns Valley on Tuesday night.

Bellefonte senior Mia Johnson scored at the 8:28 mark to give Bellefonte a 1-0 lead early. However, the unassisted goal would be her squad’s only goal of the night.

The Lady Raiders (0-1) did not play their traditional season-opening tournament, the Raider Classic, due to delayed start by the PIAA.

The Lady Rams (1-0) got even with the Lady Raiders on an unassisted goal by Nicole Denger at the 11:14 mark. PV took the 2-1 lead with a goal by Maria Lovallo at the 26:15 mark of the first half.

There was no scoring in the second half.

Penns Valley (1-0) celebrated its seniors in a non-traditional Senior Night. Teams throughout the state are having early-season senior nights in the event that the season is canceled at some point this fall.

Freshman Keira Whitman made her debut in goal for the Lady Raiders, stopping 15 of 17 Penns Valley shots.

Bellefonte is back in action on Thursday, playing host to Central at Rogers Stadium.
