Central, Bald Eagle end in a 1-1 tie in boys soccer

WINGATE — Bald Eagle Area and Central played to a 1-1 tie Wednesday night at Alumni Stadium. Wednesday’s match marked the second meeting between Central and Bald Eagle this season as the Eagles won the first matchup, 5-2.

“We had opportunities to score and put the ball in the back of the net and we didn’t capitalize earlier enough in the game, it’s on us,” Bald Eagle coach Jason Bair said after the conclusion of the match.

Both teams went scoreless in the opening half. Central and Bald Eagle both earned decent looks at goals, but the score was 0-0 at the end of the first half.

The Eagles came out in the second half and played much more aggressive offensively. Around the 44 minute mark of the match, Seth Koch broke the tie for Bald Eagle. The junior found the bottom left corner of the net and put the ball past Central’s keeper Zeb Wyant to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.

Shortly after Koch’s goal for Bald Eagle, the Dragons got a goal of their own when Zach Gahagan snuck it past Bald Eagle’s keeper Clayton Reigh to tie the match at one in the 48th minute.

The Dragons controlled the remaining time in the match as the team’s offense held the tempo and managed possession. Both teams fought for possession with the scored tied at one and time winding down, the physicality increased as the match did.

It was great goalie play the rest of the way from Wyant and Reigh. Neither keeper allowed any shots to go past after each surrendered one in the second period.

In the overtime period, Central controlled the tempo as it did for most of the night. The Dragons came close to winning it in the second overtime, but the Eagles defensive play would not allow it to happen.

Bair said he was proud of the way his team shared the ball Wednesday night, and he was proud with their overall fight.

“We did a good job passing and controlling the ball,” Bair said, “They never gave-up and they worked their tails off.”

Up next for the Eagles is a home match against Mt. Union on Saturday, Oct. 17.
