Local roundup: Clearfield defeats Penns Valley in girls soccer

Clearfield defeated Penns Valley, 3-0, in girls soccer. Ellie Smith scored twice and Amanda Hazel added a goal. Kylie Auman had 12 saves for Penns Valley.

“Tonight was the unfortunate combination of our group not playing to their best and facing a strong Clearfield group that played really well,” Penns Valley coach Andrew Beverly. “We knew going in that tonight would be yet another tough league game, but we just couldn’t put things together on both offense and defense tonight.”

• Penns Valley lost to Central Mountain, 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) in girls volleyball. Jadyn Butler led the team with 22 digs to surpass the 1,000 dig milestone, becoming the first player in school history to reach that amount.

Hailey Coursen had 16 assists and Kailen Winkelblech had eight kills.

• Penns Valley’s Michael Johnson scored in the second half to lift Penns Valley to a 1-0 win over Huntingdon. Defensively, Penns Valley held Huntingdon to just three shots on goal.

“That was definitely the goal of the year so far by Michael, what a brilliant shot,” Penns Valley coach Ken Gore said. “We wer hoping to score a couple more goals, but I’ll take the 1-0 victory. A win is a win.”

• In girls tennis, Jersey Shore lost to Selinsgrove, 4-1. The Bulldogs’ only win came at No. 3 singles where Riley Frazier beat McKenna Parker, 6-3, 6-2.
