Local roundup: Johnson’s 2 goals lift Penns Valley
Michael Johnson and Zach Heckman both scored twice in Penns Valley’s 5-0 win over Philispburg-Osceola in boys soccer.
Penns Valley played well defensively, limiting P-O to just two shots on goal.
“Dennis (Michael Johnson) is simply one of the best players in the Mountain League,” Penns Valley coach Ken Gore said. “He is quick and fast and can finish like a pro. And he has one speed: 100 percent.”
It extends the Rams streak to six games with the shutout victory. It’s the second straight game Johnson has had at least two goals as he had a hat trick before the P-O win.
“For some reason, maybe because of the delays at the beginning, we got off to a slow start this season, but we’re really hitting our stride now at a critical time,” Gore said. “We continue to elevate our play each match and I am extremely proud of every guy on this team for sticking together and putting in the teammwork, dilligence and discipline to get to this point.
“We will keep going hard and smart and see where we end up after our last regular season match next week. It’s an exciting time ot be a part of PV boys soccer.”
In addition to his two goals, Johnson had three assists and Caleb Narber had two assists. Aidan Culver added a goal as well.
