Local roundup: Penns Valley boys soccer wins

Despite two second-half goals by Bellefonte, Penns Valley held on in boys soccer to defeat the Raiders, 4-3.

Michael Johnson scored twice, including four minutes into the second half to put Penns Valley ahead by two before Bellefonte cut the deficit down to one with a goal in the 68th minute.

“We worked hard to achieve this outcome today and it paid off,” Penns Valley coach Ken Gore said. “We discussed how this match will set the tone for the rest of our season and hopefully propel us into postseason play. I was immensely proud of my guys for stepping up and leaving it all out there on the pitch today.

“This was truly a signature win for Penns Valley soccer and we’re going to enjoy it for a day or two, then get ready for two busy weeks coming up.”
