Local roundup: PV boys soccer cruises past BEA
Penns Valley cruised to a 6-1 win against Bald Eagle Area in boys soccer on a cold and misty day. Michael Johnson recorded a hat trick. Caleb Narber had a goal and two assists as well.
BEA’s lone goal avoided a shutout with seven minutes remaining in the game.
“When the weather is like this, it makes me very nervous because anything can happen, and usually does,” Penns Valley coach Ken Gore said. “But I was really pleased with how my guys handled the ball and carried out our control game plan in spite of the conditions.”
BEA was held to just three total shots on goal.
“I have very strong players in my midfield and on my front line, and once again they came through to beat the defense time and time again,” Gore said. “I told my team that Michael Johnson was a ‘man on fire’ tonight with his hat trick and Caleb Narber was close behind with his smart, controlled passing — and that finish — it really was a beautiful thing.”
Aidan Culver and Zach Heckman also added goals for Penns Valley (7-3).
• Penns Valley beat Central Mountain, 3-2 (14-25, 24-26, 25-23, 29-27, 15-10). Central Mountain won the first two games before Penns Valley won three in a row.
Ellie Coursen had seven blocks and 14 kills and Cammie Upcraft had three blocks and 12 kills.
Anna Butler added 11 kills. Hailey Coursen had a solid day, leading Penns Valley with an impressive 41 assists and 24 digs and Jadyn Butler added 30 digs for Penns Valley.
