Central Mountain names new athletic director
Steve Hafele has been named as Central Mountain’s new athletic director. Hafele takes over for George Bidwell, who has been the interim athletic director for Central Mountain.
Hafele was a health and physical education teacher at Central Dauphin High school prior to accepting the position with Central Mountain.
“I look forward to reaching out and getting into the community,” Hafele said. “That’s going to be something big for me. I know that I want to get families involved in the educational process. I also want to make our social media is something where information and communication is presented as often as possible.”
Hafele earned a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education at West Chester University. After West Chester, he attended Bloomsburg University where he achieved a Master of Education degree with a focus on Educational Leadership and Administration.
“I’m excited, I’m enthusiastic, I want to come in and grow our athletic programs and I want students to understand the importance of education and the importance of academic achievement,” Hafele said.
Hafele said he will be able to succeed due to his experience both in and out of the classroom. He served as program director in Downingtown and has coached football, wrestling and baseball in the past.
He was the assistant junior high football coach from 2016-17 at Coatesville High School, head wrestling coach at Fawn Grove in 2017, and head baseball coach at Fawn Grove in the spring of 2017.
“I think having all of that and as well as knowledge of all different sports, will truly benefit me,” Hafele said. “Overall, I’d say my goal is to come in and make an all-around and significant impact on the athletic programs and academics.”
