Shore’s Weiss places 2nd at U15 Greco Roman trials
Jersey Shore’s Brock Weiss was the national runner-up at the U15 Greco Roman Wrestling World Team Trials on April 23-25, 2021.
Just a week after his 15th birthday, the Jersey Shore freshman headed to Wisconsin to compete at the UWW Cadet, U15 and Futures Nationals. He wrestled for the M2 Training Center that is coached by David Taylor and Mark McKnight.
In the primary round, Weiss won, 13-9, against Brayden Canoyer of the MWC Wrestling Academy.
Weiss advanced in the quarterfinals with a hard back-and-forth battle ending in a criteria decision 6-6 over Aaron Stewart of Illinois.
Entering the semifinals, Weiss advanced with a win over Angel Serrano, Colorado, 8-3, earning a berth in the National Greco Roman finals at 52 kilograms (114.4 pounds) where he would face Jackson Heslin of Poway Elite wrestling club in California. Weiss’s world team aspirations fell short in the best-of-three matches where he dropped consecutive matches, 8-0 and 10-0.
Weiss was a 2021 Big 7 champion, 2021 District 4 Class AA North Section Champion, 2021 District 4 Class AA runner-up, 2021 Northeast Class AA Regional runner-up and 2021 Class AA state qualifier. He went 31-6 at 106 pounds in his freshman campaign.
He is one of only three freshman Bulldogs to qualify for the state tournament along with teammate Hayden Packer (2020) and Hayden’s father Mike Packer (1978).
