Bellefonte’s Walker earns top Express soccer honor
The 2021 Bellefonte boys soccer team was an incredible bunch that did special things this fall. Despite falling in the district title game by just one to Central Mountain at home, the Raiders had a campaign to remember. The leader of the bunch–senior Hayden Walker–tallied the most goals and has been named the Lock Haven Express Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
Walker, a senior, recorded a team-high 25 goals to go with six assists. He was among the best playmakers in the area as he wrapped up a very successful career.
“Having a player like Hayden makes everyone around him better. All the guys step their game up. The confidence level of everyone goes up,” Bellefonte coach Scott Martz said in response to what Walker does for his team.
For Martz, Walker’s best attribute on the field is the way he’s able to move with the ball.
“I love watching his ball skills and how good he is with the ball. The ball is like a magnet on his foot. He is so fast. He has a great left and right foot and can score from anywhere on the field,” he said. I think the best part of his game is that he’s never satisfied he wants to get better and work harder than anyone else on the field. His confidence in is game is also a strength.”
Bellefonte ended its season by winning eight of 10 games. A major reason why they were so successful? The impact Walker had on the pitch. Martz was always impressed by Walker’s remarkable abilities.
“He scored when we needed a goal but also did a nice job of putting his teammates in a place to be successful. I know he wished we could have won our league or districts this year that’s just the competitor that he is, but he had a very strong season. There were times in a game I just stood there and was amazed what he did,” Martz said.
The senior was named as a first-team Mountain League all-star for his accomplishments.
