The loss ended a four-game, season-opening winning streak for the Bald Eagles, which was its longest since 1993-94. Both teams traded threes to start the game before Mercyhurst gained an early 9-6 lead early in the first half. Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) and MarkAnthony Fidelis (Largo, Md./DeMatha) got the scoring started for Lock Haven early in the contest with matching three-pointers from the wing. Following the initial frenzy, the Lakers used a 10-2 run to push their lead to double figures and put the Bald Eagles at an early 19-8 deficit. Mercyhurst maintained its lead over the remainder of the opening frame and took a 40-28 lead into the locker room. Out of the halftime intermission, Lock Haven quickly cut the Mercyhurst lead down to single digits by turning to the inside game and creating numerous Lakers miscues. The Haven used a 6-0 run over 36 seconds to trim the gap to 44-39, forcing a Mercyhurst timeout. The frenzied Bald Eagles sequence was opened up by a Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) dunk.Mercyhurst responded and extended the lead back to double figures with a 6-0 run of its own.

The two teams exchanged scores over the ensuing six minutes of play before an Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) trey brought the Bald Eagles to within six at a 62-56 tally with nine and change to play. Mercyhurst stopped the Lock Haven surge with a three-pointer if its own, and added another trey on its next possession to push the lead back to double figures, 68-56.Over the remainder of the game, Lock Haven made multiple runs but the Lakers had an answer each time as Mercyhurst held on to defeat the Bald Eagles by an 87-74 score. Fidelis and Montague led Lock Haven offensively with 19 points each in the loss. Washington chipped in 14 points as the Bald Eagles had four players in double figures as McPherson added ten of his own.

The Lock Haven University women’s track and field powered their way to four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying marks today at the Bucknell Bison Opener.

Riyana Owens (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown) highlighted the action for LHU as she improved on two of her own school records this weekend. She opened the day by tying her own school record in the 60m dash with a 7.73 second mark. She returned in the finals to run a blazing 7.70 and finish third overall. She narrowly missed a NCAA DII provisional mark by .03 seconds, but did notch the school record for the second time of the day and a PSAC qualifying-mark.

Owens wasn’t done after the 60m. She returned in the 300m and broke her own school best for her third record-setting effort of the day. The 41.88 effort shattered the record and led her to a fourth-place finish.

Billie Jo Bollinger (Manheim Pa./Manheim Central) picked up where she left off in the hurdles last spring; she ran 9.40 in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing sixth and collecting her first PSAC mark of the year.

Veteran Karina Long (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) jumped her way to a third-place finish on the heels of her 5.58m long jump mark. That jump is also be a PSAC qualifying mark. Megan Manglaviti (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) joined her on the PSAC auto qualifier list as she threw an impressive 14.14m in the weight throw, finishing eighth in the event.

The Lock Haven University men’s indoor track and field team returned to the track for the first time since the 2017 Indoor Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships today (Dec. 4). Sophomore stand-out Ryan Miller led the day for LHU.

Miller was electric in his first start of the season. His 50.47 run in the 400m earned him a second-place finish and his first PSAC automatic-qualifying mark of the season. Naturally, he followed that performance with a win in the 300m and finished in36.1. That mark is an LHU top-10 time.

Miller currently ranks No. 9 in DII with his early season effort.

Freshman Austin Kravetz, a member of the LHU men’s soccer team, made his debut for Lock Haven track and field today. In the debut, he just missed notching a PSAC mark. He ran 7.18 in the 60-meter dash and a 7.10 would have automatically qualified Kravetz for February’s championship meet.

In total, nine student-athletes donned an LHU track and field singlet for the first time today. The rest of Lock Haven’s team will debut in January.
