Local roundup: Bellefonte cross country advances to league final

CROSS COUNTRY

Bellefonte raced in a tri-meet with Philipsburg and Clearfield at Clearfield high school. In boys action, Bellefonte defeated Clearfield and Philipsburg, scoring 44-17 and 38-20, respectively. The top three finishers in the race for the Raiders were Chase Ebeling, Alex Crist and Alex Mansfield. The boys move on to 6-0 in Mountain League play.

In girls action, the Raiders saw Ashleigh Aukerman, Kate Rarrick and Natalie Jolley finish as the top three runners in the meet for Bellefonte. The girls move on to 4-2 in Mountain League play.

Next meet: Mountain League Championship October 19 at Penns Valley

VOLLEYBALL

Penns Valley defeated Huntingdon in a close 3-2 match. Ella Hadley led Penns Valley with 17 kills and 14 digs. Ella Aston and Ellie Coursen added 13 and 12 kills apiece. Julie Emel led the team in assists with 40. Maddie Butler had a team-high 21 digs while Laney Aston totaled 14. Coursen also added seven blocks.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bald Eagle defeated Huntingdon 3-0 on Tuesday night to secure their seventh win of the season. Heather Leskovansky netted two goals for Bald Eagle and Maura Cingle scored one goal as the Bald Eagles shutout Huntingdon. Angie Grieb and Molly Miller each recorded nine saves in the match, respectively.
