Bald Eagles bounce back with close, road win over Georgian Court
LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Sparked by a dominant effort by the second unit, the Lock Haven men’s basketball team took down Georgian Court on the road, 78-75, to earn its first victory of the season in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night (Nov. 12).
Tuesday night marked the third consecutive road game for The Haven to start the 2024-25 season.
Kevin Coleman and Idris Ali scored in double figures off the bench to spark the Bald Eagles’ to victory. The Lock Haven second unit outscored the Lions, 48-19, in the game. Coleman scored 17 points and pulled in eight rebounds, while Ali added 14 points and three assists.
Eli Washington finished with his first double-double on the season as he scored 10 points, dished out 10 assists and plucked four steals.
Dyllon Scott (six rebounds) and Bryson Scott added nine and eight points, respectively.
Neither team could pull away in the first half and the game headed into the break with the score tied, 37-37. Georgian Court outshot the Bald Eagles from the floor, but Lock Haven’s aggressiveness led to a 14-5 advantage in free throws made. Lock Haven also won the battle on the glass, 23-16.
The second half was a similar story, until the Bald Eagles erupted on a 13-3 run starting at the 6:19 mark. Defense led to offense during the run, as the Bald Eagles held Georgian Court to 1-of-6 shooting, while the Haven knocked down 6-of-7 shots from the floor.
The Lions came storming back in the final minute and Bald Eagle turnover led to a Fastbreak layup that cut the Lock Haven led to 76-75 with 10 seconds to go.
However, Ali knocked down a pair of clutch free throws and a last-second three by the Lions was no good, allowing Lock Haven to hold on for the victory.
