LHU’s Rouse records double-double as Bald Eagles beat Frostburg State
FROSTBURG, Md. – Rhlyn Rouse scored 23 points and pulled in 15 rebounds to power the Lock Haven women’s basketball team to an 82-78 non-conference victory at Frostburg State on Wednesday night (Nov. 13).
In a game that featured eight ties and eight lead changes, Lock Haven built a four-point lead with 24 seconds remaining, but Frostburg State drilled a clutch shot from behind the arch to cut the Bald Eagles advantage to 79-78 with under 20 seconds to go.
Lock Haven went 1-of-2 at the foul line on the ensuing trip down the floor setting up a game-tying opportunity for the Bobcats.
However, suffocating defense by Alana Robinson forced a miss in the paint by FSU and Baughman drilled two free throws on the closing possession to secure the victory for Lock Haven.
Robinson matched her career-high in points, while setting a career-best in rebounds. Six of her game-high 15 rebounds came on the offensive end.
Reigning PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week Madeline Evans continues her hot start and finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Jenadia Jordan and Kierra Baughman rounded out the Bald Eagles in double figures, finishing with 13 and 12 respectively. Jordan added seven rebounds.
Lock Haven improves to 2-1 on the season, while the Bobcats also move to 2-1 overall.
In the first half, Lock Haven jumped out to a 14-9 lead thanks to strong defense that held Frostburg State to just 22 percent (4-of-18) from the floor. Lock Haven also got to the foul line six times and outscored the Bobcats by three at the charity stripe.
However, the Bobcats flipped the script in the second quarter and shot 53 percent from the floor to outscore the Bald Eagles 24-17 to carry a 33-31 lead into the break.
The back-and-forth affair continued in the third period, this time with Lock Haven holding the slight 27-24 advantage to lead by one and set up the exciting finish. Frostburg knocked down four 3-pointers in the period, but Lock Haven dominated the paint and scored 11 field goals while limiting FSU to eight.
