Lock Haven women’s wrestling has success at Warrior Duals
EAST STROUDSBURG — The No. 9 Lock Haven women’s wrestling team competed in the Warrior Duals on Saturday. The Bald Eagles went 5-1. Lock Haven opened the day vs host and No. 15 East Stroudsburg in a top-15 clash. The Warriors won the dual 27-20.
In the dual versus ESU, Avry Ryhal and Lily Sherer earned victories for the Bald Eagles. Ryhal won by pin in 4:15 while Sherer won in a 5-2 decision over Zoe Gress.
Jayleah Pletz dropped a close 5-4 decision against No. 7 Emily Klein.
Lock Haven would win their next five dual matches, starting with a 39-8 victory over Southern Virginia. The Haven won eight bouts including three pins and two tech falls. Taylor Bloom, Isabella DeVito, and Paige Jackson won by pin. Pletz and Sherer add victories by tech.
In the win over Utica (36-6), the Bald Eagles won eight bouts with four wins by tech fall from Pletz, Jackson, and Marissa Rumsey. Sherer also won by tech fall over No. 9 Jazmene Molina. DeVito added a win by fall at 138.
Lock Haven shut out Liberty 43-0, winning nine bouts. Sherer and DeVito won by pin. Lindsay Laws added a victory by fall in 2:49 at 180. Rumsey and Ryhal added wins by tech.
Summer Batts opened up the match versus Marymount with a tech fall victory at 103, and both Pletz and Sherer won by tech fall. Mackenzie DelVecchio, Presley McCandlish, and Trinity Monaghan all won by pin helping Lock Haven grab a 37-4 victory.
In the final match of the day, Lock Haven found themselves down 21-9 to Western New England but won the remaining four bouts for the 27-21 victory. Rumsey and Ryhal earned pinfall victories to cut into the Golden Bear’s lead 21-19. Azariah Moore (180) and No. 6 Alysa Favara (207) won by tech fall to give Lock Haven the win.
