Bald Eagles’ Kapusta earns MAC East honor

CLEVELAND – Lucas Kapusta of the Lock Haven men’s wrestling team has been named the Mid-American Conference Eastern Division Athlete of the Week.

This week, Kapusta shared the honor with Logan Messer of George Mason as the MAC announced Co-East Wrestlers of the Week.

The Bald Eagles took on a pair of Big Ten opponents in dual action over the weekend and Kapusta — a redshirt-freshman from Jeanette — led the way for Lock Haven.

The 149-pounder was the only Haven wrestler to go 2-0 and his victories included an upset-win and a tech fall.

Friday’s dual with Rutgers started at 149 pounds and Kapusta quickly quieted the crowd of nearly 4,000 with a 4-1 sudden victory win over No. 31 Andrew Clark. Back home on Sunday, Kapusta’s dominating tech fall helped the Bald Eagles fly by Wisconsin, 26-17 for Lock Haven’s first victory over a Big Ten opponent since December 2017. Kapusta downed Aiden Medora, a redshirt-senior from Wisconsin, 17-1 (5:57).

Kapusta is the fourth different Lock Haven men’s wrestling student-athlete to earn MAC East Wrestler of the Week honors this season as he follows the lead of Wyatt Henson (Nov. 5), Colin Fegley (Nov. 12) and Tucker Hogan (Nov. 26).

Starting at $3.69/week.
