Lock Haven women finish strong in win against West Chester
WEST CHESTER — The Lock Haven women’s basketball team caught fire in the final period to upend West Chester University, 83-73, on the road to earn its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division victory on Monday.
With the victory, the Bald Eagles improve to 9-4 on the season and 4-3 in the PSAC. The Haven moves to 1-1 in the Eastern Division and 4-2 on the road. The Golden Rams fall to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC.
West Chester built a two-point advantage after the first quarter, but the Bald Eagles shot 50% from the floor and knocked down 7 of 8 attempts at the line in the second period to carry a 43-39 lead into the break.
West Chester stole the third period 16-13 to trim the deficit to one heading into the final 15 minutes.
However, Lock Haven caught fire from the floor and shot 57 percent from the field in the fourth quarter on its way to 27 points and the victory. During the run, Lock Haven turned defense into offense and limited the Golden Rams to 26% shooting (5 of 19).
The 83 points scored by Lock Haven came just one-point shy of the team’s season high.
Madeline Evans had another monster game in the paint as she led the Bald Eagles with a 22 points and 14 rebounds to notch her sixth double-double of the season. The sophomore didn’t miss a shot from the field (6 of 6), while knocking down 10 of 11 shots at the line.
Alana Robinson had her best scoring outburst of the season off the bench as she finished with 19 points (9-of-14), adding four rebounds.
Jenadia Jordan had a strong game on both ends of the court and finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Kiera Baughman added 11 points, while Rhlyn Rouse rounded out the Bald Eagles in double figures and finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
As a group, Lock Haven knocked down 24 of 30 attempts at the charity stripe.
The Bald Eagles return home to host PSAC East foe East Stroudsburg University inside Thomas Fieldhouse at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
