Local roundup: Central Mountain girls fall to Milton 56-40

Milton defeated Central Mountain in girls basketball, 56-40. Liz Shrock had a huge game for the Black Panthers with a near quadruple double. She had nine points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals while also contributing five blocks.

Carrie King had nine boards and six assists. Milton’s Addison Wenzel led the team wtih 18 points while Kiley Long added 14. Milton also saw Amelia Gainer add nine points.

Central Mountain saw Camdyn Weaver score 14 points and Lena Walker add 13, but it wasn’t quite enough for the Wildcats.

• Keiva Middleton pitched a complete game and Madison Hardy homered to lift the Lock Haven softball team to a 4-2 victory over North Greenville in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader. The Bald Eagles fell 4-3 on a walk off to The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVA Wise) in game one of the day.

The Bald Eagles end the weekend with a 2-2 overall record after splitting both days against UVA Wise and North Greenville.

In game one, UVA Wise opened the scoring with one run in the bottom of the second, but Lock Haven worked out of the jam by stranding runners at second and third.

The Bald Eagles threated with runners in the top of the fifth, but the Cavs threw out a runner at home and worked in and out of trouble.

• The Lock Haven women’s track and field team kicked off a busy weekend by competing in Youngstown State University’s Last Chance Meet and the Widener Indoor Classic.

Natalie Gentzel had the highest place finish of the day, finishing sixth with a time of 1:01.39 in the 400 dash. Lillian Bradley had an impressive day, earning sixth and ninth place in the 200 (26.96) and 60 dashes (8.36), respectively.

Kelci Carle secured a ninth-place finish with a time of 10.53 in the 60 hurdles.

Clarissa Davis had another impressive week, earning eighth place in the shot put with a mark of 38 feet, 11 inches. Mallory Eck placed 12th in the shot put with a mark of 37-11 1/2.

On the men’s side, Eric Zalar put on an impressive performance in the weight throw with a distance of 60-4 3/4, placing first. The personal-best throw gave Zalar his first NCAA Championship mark and is the second-best throw in Lock Haven history.

The team of Lukas Epitropakis, Cam Marquette, Skylar Small and Rocky Romani ran to a fourth-place finisih in the 1,600 relay in 3:36.44 and in the 800, Small ran a personal-best time of 1:59.55 for a top-10 finish.
