Racing action got underway at Lincoln Speedway on Sunday

It’s been a long cold winter, but after getting a taste of summer two weeks ago at the Florida opener races, the drivers were ready to get a jump on the season. Lincoln was up for the challenge and after they had to cancel Saturday’s show they increased the Sunday purse for the Ice Breaker 30.

Chase Dietz started on the pole then fell backwards and had to charge back through the field to claim the win on Sunday, it was his first race with Stehman Motorsports.

Initially, Gerard McIntyre took the lead with Danny Dietrich and Jeff Halligan in pursuit. Dietrich had powered into the lead by lap nine but Dietz wasn’t done and was on the move ready to challenge him again.

The battle for the lead intensified, with Dietz pulling alongside Dietrich coming out of turn four, but Dietrich held on. A strong run off Turn 2 gave Dietz the momentum he needed, and he surged ahead out of turn four, taking the lead on lap 23.

A late-race caution with three laps to go changed the momentum when McIntyre and Tyler Ross tangled, with McIntyre, who had led the opening eight laps, by coming to a stop in Turn 2. On the restart, Dietz got a stronger jump on Dietrich who made one last charge with two to go, but Dietz was too strong, crossing the finish line 1.115 seconds ahead for the victory.

The top five finishers were Dietz, Danny Dietrich, Troy Wagaman, Brent Marks and Aaron Bollinger. On Saturday, Lincoln Speedway is back in action with the 410 sprints and PA micros.

Racing is scheduled for 3 p.m. with pit gates opening at 12:30 p.m. and grandstand gates opening at 1 p.m.

Starting at $3.69/week.
