Local roundup: Shore baseball defeats Danville in season opener
Jersey Shore erupted for 11 runs in the first two innings and opened its baseball season in impressive fashion, defeating defending District 4 Class AAAA champion Danville, 14-10.
The Bulldogs scored six runs in the top of the first while belting 10 hits in a game shortened to six innings because of darkness. Hunter Enders, Carter Rhinehart and winning pitcher Zach Myers all had two hits and each added RBIs.
Myers also struck out seven in 3 1/3 innings of strong relief. Carson Watkins hit a double and drove in two runs, freshman Nolan Pauling was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and Collin Berguson added a hit with two RBIs.
Penns Valley fell on the road against Tyrone, 3-0, in a tough contest. Gavin Neideigh threw four solid innings, scattering four hits while Parker Feltenberger had two innings on the mound with only one hit allowed.
The leading hitter for Penns Valley was Rylan Birge, who went 1 for 3 with a double.
