Local roundup: Shore tennis wins while CM falls
Jersey Shore defeated Lewisburg in boys tennis on Friday, 4-1. The Bulldogs swept the singles competition.
Ryder Fink (No. 1 singles), Saul Hensler (No. 2) and Abram Paulhamus (No. 3) all secured victories.
Ezra Paulhamus and Dillon Harsanyi defeated Andon Kloosta and John Ke, 6-4, 11-9.
Central Mountain fell to Montoursville, 4-1. The Wildcats’ lone victory came at No. 1 singles where Joey McCluskey earned a 6-2, 6-4 win against Rain Snyder. Tim Brinker fell at No. 2 singles to Montoursville’s Cullen Pauling, 6-3, 7-5.
Central Mountain’s Wesley Cowart lost at No. 3 singles to GIo Catino, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles competition, Brayden Spedding and Mitchell Borges fell at No.1 doubles, 6-4, 6-2 to Mason Morrow and Cole Snyder.
Montoursville’s Colby Ulmer and Mason Fry earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Ben Brinker and Jeremiah Plummer.
• The Lock Haven baseball team took on California (Pa.) in its first PSAC Western division matchup of the season. The Bald Eagles fell in game one 15-2 and game two 14-4.
Lock Haven moves to 10-11 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC West and California University improves to 14-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
The Vulcans were held to one run in the early stages of the ball game before erupting for eight runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth which proved to be the difference.
Lock Haven offense was led by Nick White, who had two hits and a double. Morgen Billotte and Bryce Vincent each drove in one run. Matt Lingenfelter started the game for the Bald Eagles, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out two.
Mansfield split a doubleheader with Kutztown, winning the first contest 10-9 and losing the second, 8-7.
• Maria Fratangelo left the yard twice and drove in seven runs to lead the Lock Haven softball team to a 10-9 victory in game two in a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader against Millersville in the Bald Eagles’ home opener on Friday. Millersville won game one 6-1.
Lock Haven has now won six of its last eight games to improve to 8-6 on the season and 2-2 in the PSAC East. Millersville moves to 18-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Bald Eagles’ offense was on fire and tallied 32 hits during the two games. In game two alone, five different players recorded multiple hits and the team totaled 15 base knocks.
In the nightcap, both offenses were rolling as the two teams totaled 25 hits and 19 runs.
Fratangelo led the offense by going a perfect 3-for-3, with seven RBIs as she went deep twice with a pair of three run home runs. Abby Robertson (double) and Maci Brodzina also picked up three hits and both drove in a run.
Keri Wesneski (double) and Madison Melius (RBI) also finished with a multi-hit game.
