Local roundup: LHU falls on the road at Slippery Rock in doubleheader

In college baseball, Lock Haven fell on the road at Slippery Rock 4-3 and 8-6 in a PSAC Western Division doubleheader. Lock Haven moves to 12-23 overall and 2-13 in the PSAC West. Slippery Rock improves to 22-11 on the season and 11-5 in the conference.

In game one, Slippery Rock jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with a big inning in the bottom of the first. Lock Haven, however, scored three runs over the ensuing four innings to cut its deficit to 4-3.

Jake Ambrosio singled in a run in the second, Morgen Billotte scored on a wild pitch in the third and Bryce Vincent doubled in a run in the fourth to keep the Bald Eagles alive.

The Bald Eagles moved the tying run to scoring position in both the sixth and seventh inning, but The Rock got out of both jams without surrendering a run to hold on for a 4-3 victory.

• In women’s lacrosse Lock Haven has now won three of its last four games to improve to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC West. With the victory, The Haven takes a two-game lead for third place in the Western Division. Edinboro falls to 2-10 on the season and 0-6 in the conference.

Lock Haven scored nine goals in the opening 15 minutes and never looked back as they led from start to finish. Of the 10 players who scored, six found the back of the net multiple times, including a game-high five goals from Gabby Gunnip.

Lexi Blunk recorded a hat-trick, while Hadley Munn, Kaitlyn Collins, Makayla Kelly and Peyton Masters all scored twice.

• The Lock Haven golf team returned to action and competed in the Millersville Invitational hosted at the Tanglewood Manor Golf Club. Lock Haven finished with a team score of 411 to place eighth.

Kendall Fedder and Macy Trostle led the group with individual scores of 96 to finish tied for 36th overall. Skylar Pentz rounded out the top-3 for The Haven with a score of 108.

Sydney Hamilton (111) and Bree Johnson (117) also competed in Lock Haven’s group of five.
