Local roundup: Shore’s Myers pitches Bulldogs to a win against Shamokin

Zach Myers threw a masterful one-hit shutout and struck out seven, leading Jersey Shore to a key 4-1 win against Shamokin in baseball on Monday.

Myers threw an efficient 88 pitches and helped the Bulldogs (6-5) avenge a previous loss against Shamokin. Commanding his pitches and drilling his spots, the right-hander allowed just a third inning run. Freshman Nolen Pauling belted two doubles and drove in two runs, while fellow freshman Carter Rhinehart also produced two hits.

Collin Berguson hit a RBI double, Mason Winter was 1 for 1 with an RBI and Landon Welshans added a hit.

• Lynna Clark went 4 for 5 with a triple, while earning the win as Jersey Shore pounded out 18 hits and defeated Shikellamy, 14-9, in softball.

Dani Miller and Kylie Schall both generated three hits with Schall driving in three runs and Miller scoring three times. Jaymison Stellfox had two hits, doubled and scored three times, while Alexis Frey added two hits and Isabelle Engel three RBIs, helping Jersey Shore (7-1, 5-0 HAC-I) win its fifth straight game.

Sullivan County scored 16 runs in the second inning to cruise to a 23-0 win over Sugar Valley in three innings, limiting the Phoenix to no hits and taking advantage of nine errors and nine walks. The Griffins led 7-0 after the first inning and collected eight hits.

• Gabby Gunnip and Nadia Baskot combined for nine goals to lead the Lock Haven lacrosse team to an 18-10 PSAC West victory over visiting Gannon on Monday afternoon at Charlotte Smith Field.

With the victory, the Bald Eagles (8-6, 5-3 PSAC) move one step closer to clinching their second straight trip to the PSAC Championship Tournament. Lock Haven controls its own fate and can secure the third seed in the PSAC West with a victory over Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday.

Trailing 4-2 in the closing minute of the first period, Gunnip and Baskot scored back-to-back goals in less than 30 seconds to knot the game at 4-4.

The Bald Eagles never looked back from there and went on to outscore the Golden Knights 14-6 the rest of the way en route to a convincing victory.
