Jersey Shore major softball falls to Warrior Run, as run ends in Section 3 tournament

TROY – On Thursday evening, the Jersey Shore major softball team faced off against Warrior Run in a Section 3 tournament elimination game. Though the squad overcame a lot to get to this point, Warrior Run got the better of them in Troy, as Shore fell 13-1 in four innings to see its run end in sections.

Jersey Shore held firm initially, cutting a first-inning, two-run deficit behind a Riley Bowmaster RBI sacrifice fly to 2-1 and going into the fourth trailing by three. But nine-run, nine-hit fourth inning put the team in too deep of a hole to climb out of, and a quick bottom frame ended Shore’s chance at extending the game, activating mercy rule.

From the mound, Faith Wrench and Bowmaster combined for four strikeouts to two walks. And from the plate, each garnered a hit, with Wrench going 2-for-2 on the day and earning Jersey Shore’s lone run in the first. Apart from the pair, Eden Teneyck, Addyson Swakes and Cali Black also attributed hits, and Riley Crothers got on base with a walk.

Through sectionals, Jersey Shore finished 1-2, previously falling to Minersville in a close 11-9 loss before bouncing back with an 8-0 win over Athens. Prior to that, it won its second District 12 championship in three years, cruising past Williamsport Area to earn the title.
