Jersey Shore junior softball sees late rally fall short, as Lewisburg forces Game 3

TURBOTVILLE – Lewisburg beat Jersey Shore, 9-7 on Thursday night, to force a decisive third game in the Section 3 Little League Junior Softball tournament at the Moser Complex. Shore rallied from a 7-1 deficit before Lewisburg reliever Tymber Jamieson ended a four-run outburst in the sixth inning.

Payton Pennycoff’s second RBI-double of the night, a bases-clearing double in the sixth, scored Caitlin McDermott, Annabelle Fry and Amelia Thomas. But then, Jamieson relieved starter Lilley Tillson and induced a groundout and a strikeout around an intentional walk. She pitched a perfect seventh inning to secure the win.

Game 3 will be Saturday at 10 a.m. The winner is off to the state tournament next week.

Pennycoff’s fifth-inning double scored Thomas. She scored herself on a bases-loaded walk before Tillson ended the inning by forcing a fielder’s choice at home and a pop fly.

Jamieson and Brinley Haile each scored twice as Lewisburg, with several hitters crowding the plate by standing midfoot over the inside batter’s box line, scored twice in the second inning before breaking it open with a five-run seventh.

Shore advanced to sectionals by sweeping Williamsport in the District 12 tournament while Lewisburg swept Milton in District 13. Districts 15 and 24 didn’t enter teams into sectionals.

The state tournament is scheduled for July 8 to 13 at Warrior Run Little League of District 13 and Section 3. Eastern Regionals are scheduled for July 17 to 21, hosted by Wilkes University. The Junior Softball World Series runs July 27 to Aug. 2 in Kirkland, Wash.
