Local roundup: Shore girls defeat Selinsgrove 36-25

After kicking off the season on a rough note on Thursday, Jersey Shore girls basketball bounced back swimmingly just one day later. Behind a 12-point outing from Marlee Lehman, a couple of crucial threes and strong defense, the Bulldogs improved to 1-1, defeating Selinsgrove, 36-25, in the Selinsgrove Tournament third-place game on Friday night.

Alongside a career-high from Lehman, Sadie and Kylie Schall combined for 12 points and each knocked down a three-pointer. Both those threes came in the first quarter, which saw Shore quickly set the tone and carry a 10-2 lead into the second. From there, the Bulldogs never let up, establishing a double-digit lead in the second and re-establishing it for good in the fourth.

Penns Valley secured a 57-27 win against Chestnut Ridge as the Rams limited Chestnut Ridge to single digits all four quarters, including just six in the first and third.

Ellie Romig led Penns Valley with 17 points, Sydnie Dalton added 11 and Lilly Smith scored nine as Penns Valley moved to 2-1 and 2-0 in the Laurel Heartland Conference.

• In boys basketball, Bald Eagle Area fell behind by 10 points after the first quarter and wasn’t able to claw back en route to a 68-37 setback on the road to Forest Hills.

James Cowan led Bald Eagle Area with 14 points while both Kane Wolf and Jackson Millward each scored eight. Forest Hills had three players reach double figures in Dylan Stohon (18), Koy McGough (13) and Brandon Gregovich (10).
