Central Mountain, Shore wrestlers set to compete at PHACs

The PHAC Championships are scheduled for today at Bloomsburg University as Central Mountain and Jersey Shore wrestlers hope to make runs to win titles. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. and the medal rounds will begin at approximately 5 p.m.

The tournament will have bouts for first, third, fifth and seventh.

Central Mountain’s Aiden Kunes, 18-1, is the No. 1 seed in the field at 145 pounds and has a first-round bye and faces either Montoursville’s Hunter Gee or Shikellamy’s Gavin Keefer. Jersey Shore’s Benjamin Lovell has a first-round matchup with second-seeded Ivan Baker of Loyalsock (14-3).

Central Mountain’s Angelo Tarantella is seeded eighth at 114 and competes against Mifflinburg’s Landon Shemory with the winner facing top-seeded Rowen Humphrey of Southern Columbia.

At 121, Jersey Shore’s Gabriel Fisher earned the second seed and has a bye into the quarterfinals and faces either Loyalscok’s Owen Peck or Bloomsburg’s Jake Keller. Central Mountain’s Collin Bauman is the sixth seed in the 121 field and wrestles against Fynn Oberdorf of Lewisburg.

At 107 pounds, Jersey Shore junior Travis Merrill faces Mount Carmel’s Isac Colon Roman in the first round and the winner will advance to face Montoursville’s Branden Eisenhour. Also at 107, Central Mountain’s Hunter Nace will wrestle Shikellamy’s Austin Wolfe in the first round with the winner advancing to face Mifflinburg’s Collin Roman.

Central Mountain’s Gavin Heverly, who’s 16-6, is seeded No. 2 at 127 and has a bye into the quarterfinals. The Wildcat will face either Hughesville’s Cameron Styron or Braxton Kemper of Shamokin. Jersey Shore’s Draylen Phillips will wrestle Shikellamy’s Jake Hendricks at 127.

Central Mountain junior Patrick Tarantella, who has a 22-4 mark, is seeded third and faces Danville’s Donovan Sharpe in the first round. Jersey Shore’s Dylan Hensler has a wrestle-in bout against Bloomsburg’s Shiloh Welsh. The winner faces Mifflinburg’s BRadley Wagner, the top seed.

Central Mountain’s Hayes Donley is seeded fourth in the 139 bracket and is 15-8 and will compete against Logan Pesnyl of Shamokin. Jersey Shore’s Coltan Gordner faces Shikellamy’s Ryder Borich, the third seed who is 17-7, in the bracket.

Central Mountain’s Luke Garman is seeded eighth in the 152 bracket with an 11-7 record and has a first-round matchup against Mount Carmel’s Lukas Carpenter, with the winner facing returning eighth-place state medalist Landen Wagner of Lewisburg (20-2), the top seed. Jersey Shore’s Louden Spotts, who’s 16-4, faces Williamsport’s Jahki Burget in the first round.

Jersey Shore’s Tobias Morgret is seeded third at 160 and is 16-5. He faces Loyalscok’s Cage Best in the first round. Dalton McDermott of Central Mountain (10-7) faces Mount Carmel’s Alexander LaMas in the first round. The winner of those two bouts face in the quarterfinals.

Jersey Shore’s Jonathan Dincher, a returning district bronze medalist who is 12-8, faces Shikellamy’s Dominic Mojica at 172. Central Mountain’s Mario Serafini will wrestle Mount Carmel’s Evan Jones.

Jersey Shore’s Riley Kanaski faces fourth-seeded Jackson Raker of Williamsport in the first round and Central Mountain’s Hunter Donley, seeded sixth, faces Loyalsock’s Isaac Probst in the first round.

Central Mountain’s Todd Caris is seeded second at 215 with a 19-6 record as a sophomore and wrestles Makai Williams of Williamsport in the first round. Jersey Shore’s Aiden Patts will wrestle against Loyalscok’s Tristan Van Fleet and the winner of those two bouts face in the quarterfinals.

Jersey Shore’s Garret Barner wrestles at 285 against Central Columbia’s Clayton Whitenight and Central Mountain’s Hayes Henry, a returning district silver medalist (16-6) wrestles Montoursville’s Gabe Vanderwall in the first round.
