Fire destroys home near Jersey Shore

JERSEY SHORE – At least one person was left homeless after a blaze Sunday night destroyed a house on Cement Hollow Road.

The homeowner called 911 to report a fire at 1008 Cement Hollow Road about 8:25 p.m., according to reports.

A dispatcher told responding fire units that the homeowner believed the fire was around the chimney. When Tiadaghton Valley police arrived at the Piatt Township scene, they reported fire involving much of the second floor.

Minutes later, when the first fire officer pulled up, he reported the entire structure was engulfed in flames.

There was no information on whether there were any injuries.

As a steady snow fell – making all roads very slippery – firefighters from several companies in Lycoming and Clinton counties battled the flames.

The bulk of the fire was “knocked down” by 9 p.m., according to reports from the scene.

Fire companies from Jersey Shore, Antes Fort, Nippenose Valley, Woodward Township, Old Lycoming Township, Montgomery were among those that responded.

The Express will have more information on this fire as it becomes available.
