While biking to work, I crossed over the Maynard Street Bridge and stopped for a minute to peer over the railing for a closer look at what lies beneath the Susquehanna River's surface. I had just read Joe Smith III's article, "Snorkels, Scuba and Sunken Treasure" and was a bit surprised to learn what lurks beneath. We have a large diving community that explores our waterways, even in freezing temperatures. Smith and his interviewees really took a deep dive into what lies beneath for a revealing piece.
For our riverkeeper, keeping an eye on the Susquehanna is John Zaktansky's job. Whether it is taking on polluters, teaching children to engage with the river or a host of other duties, he is dedicated to fulfilling the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association's mission of protecting our precious resources and us.
Since it is summer, WBL thought it was time to revel in the music fest season. We are quite fortunate to have at least four fests that have proven track records for attracting crowds year after year. From classical to bluegrass to blues to rock, the hills will be alive with the sound of fests.
Enjoy all the region has to offer this summer! I know my bicycle and I will.
