Evelyn “Peg” Duffield (Glantz) and James “Duffy” Duffield, of Jersey Shore, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2025.

The couple met in a cornfield in 1950 while both were working for Doeblers. (A story that Duffy is happy to recount any chance he is given.) They were married in Jersey Shore in 1955.

Peg is the daughter of the late Vinnie and Albert Glantz. She co-owned Duffy’s Bicycle Center and ran the business with her husband for over 20 years. She was also employed by Mardin’s Inc., Jersey Shore, as a school bus driver for over 30 years and is currently employed by Windecker Enterprises, Jersey Shore, as an aide on a school bus.

Duffy is the son of the late Laura and Eugene Duffield. He is a veteran of the Army and served his country in Baunholder, Germany. In addition to co-owning Duffy’s Bicycle Center, he was employed as a meat cutter by Weis Markets for over 40 years and is now enjoying retirement.

The couple has a son, Damon (Stacy) Duffield, and a daughter, Brenda (Bob) Smith. They have four grandchildren, Cory (Patty) Duffield, Sarina (Greg) Bower, Courtney Duffield and Derek (Jessika) Smith. They also have five great-grandchildren, Phaedra, Eisak, Sophia, Zoey and Danika.

When asked for the secret to 70 years of marriage, Peg replied (with a glint in her eye) “Yes, dear…yes, dear…yes, dear.” In their honor, a surprise party was held with family and friends.

Starting at $3.69/week.
