Downtown Rotary President Marianne Lotfi, left, thanks Lydia Wert, a Global Messenger, representing SOPA (Special Olympics of Pennsylvania). Lydia was a recent speaker at the Downtown Rotary Club. Lydia, who participates in SOPA soccer, swimming, skiing, and bocce ball told the club that she has friends from all over Pennsylvania. Before SOPA, she had few friends and fewer activities and events but now she has many, keeping in touch through the Internet. Her mentor and mother, Wendy appealed to downtowners to visit an event at Penn State, usually in July, to witness the enthusiasm of participants, parents, coaches, mentors and spectators.
