MILESBURG -- Two local Lions groups presented checks to the Mumper-Shawley Milesburg American Legion Post #893 to help to cover the cost of a meal that will be held at the Milesburg Legion on Nov. 12, following a short public ceremony and flyover at Foster Joseph Sayers Medal of Honor Memorial, Sayers Dam, rural Howard.

The public ceremony at the memorial site, which begins promptly at 1:30 p.m., will commemorate the 80th anniversary of PFC Foster Joseph Sayers' death near Thionville, France, on Nov. 12, 1944. The meal afterward will be at the Milesburg American Legion at 2:15 p.m.

Howard Area Lions Club representative Lloyd Rhoades and Milesburg Lions Club representative Samantha Walker both presented their respective checks in the amount of $400 to Post 893 Commander Steve Shawley on Oct. 17.
